Bromley Common

54.4 kWp Solar PV system installed across multiple properties in Bromely.

A three-part renewable energy project in Bromley Common, Bromley, Kent is being designed and installed for Kent based house builders by Ecolution, the UK’s leading independent renewable energy provider. Ecolution was tasked to meet the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 on three apartment blocks, 35 houses and one extra care unit with 65 dwellings in Bromley Common. This is the first project of its kind for this Kent based housebuilder and its largest residential development to date. Ecolution was awarded the business following a competitive tender and this represents the third business win with them.

In the first phase, 200w Romag photovoltaic panels were installed, providing an 18kWp system, which is communal to the apartment blocks. 10 houses were then each installed with 1kWp to 1.4kWp photovoltaic systems. In phase two, 35 flat- plate solar hot water panels were installed to the flat roof area of the extra care facility, providing total coverage of 80.5m2. This serves the main plant room area within extra care block, which, in turn, distributes hot water to each home. Phase three provided 25 houses with solar hot water and two apartment blocks received 11.2kWp solar PV system.

Phase one and two of the Bromley Common project will offset around 20,000kg of C02 and phase three will also off-set around 20,000kg of C02. The Bromley common development has been awarded Code 4 and low carbon funding, in principle.

Richard Jenkins, Managing Director at Ecolution, says: “We were delighted to work with them for the third time, especially on their Code 4 project and first PV house installation. Because of the higher carbon reductions required for the houses, we saw that it was more economical to install a photovoltaic system, rather than a Solar Thermal Hot Water system”.

Ecolution has been working with the building industry for over 25 years, providing renewables energy solutions for over a decade, with an expert team who have over 50 years combined experience in the design, installation and maintenance of integrated renewable technologies. Ecolution operates within the commercial and residential sectors, providing solar hot water systems, solar photovoltaic systems.
