157 kWp Solar PV system installed across multiple properties in Hayes.
An 18-month project to achieve renewable energy targets for a major residential development in Hayes, comprising 160 flats over 15 blocks and 101 houses, has been awarded to Ecolution, the UK’s largest independent renewable energy systems provider, following a competitive tender. 33% of the Hayes Arena development is to be Social Housing for the Family Mosaic Housing Association and the remainder is for private sale.
The scheme comprises a combination of photovoltaic and solar hot water. The photovoltaic element will provide 0.35 kWp per flat and 1 kWp per house, using Schuco modules. The PV will also service communal areas in the flats. This system will produce in excess of £45,000-worth of income from the Feed-in Tariff each year. Ecolution will install a two-panel Kingspan solar thermal system to each of the 101 houses. There will be further benefits from the solar hot water systems when the Renewable Heat Incentive is introduced in June 2011.
Some of the solar thermal panels are mounted on A-frames to meet the requirements of the client and planning authorities.
Kevin Knapp, director at Ecolution, says: “Our design team has worked very hard on this project to ensure that the high aesthetic requirements have been met, in conjunction with the technical and planning specifications. As a result of our work on the Hayes Arena development, Ecolution has already been appointed by Barratt to work for them directly on another project.”
He continues: “We are delighted with the progress to date and feel confident that Ecolution will help ensure that the contractors achieve the renewable energy targets. This is a big site and quite an undertaking for us in terms of conquering the technical requirements and also the aesthetic challenges.”
