39.75 kWp Solar PV system installed across blocks in London.
In July 2015 Ecolution installed a 39.75 kWp of solar output across blocks A to E in Balham, London, for design and build contractors.
The design and build contractors began to renovate the run down flats in Limerick Close, just off Atkins Road in early 2014. They stripped out and rejuvenated the existing buildings, to create a range of contemporary new apartments. Whilst they were rejuvenating the old flats, they were also building another new block, creating a total of 45 refurbished and 29 new homes. This development consists of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments which were awarded the marketing name of Revival, reflecting the builder’s aspirations for the site, which it has lived up to.
Most of the Ecolution Group were involved in this project from Ecolution Electrical Contracting who were contracted for the re-wiring of the blocks, Ecolution Renewables installed the Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems, Ecolution Energy Services monitor and maintain it and Ecolution Finance own the Solar system.
Ecolution Electrical contracting completed all of the re-wiring at Limerick Close, whilst Ecolution Renewables were awarded the Solar PV installation. This helped to fulfil the builder’s aspirations for the site, by bringing these blocks into the new age of modern energy efficient living. Across the blocks we installed 250W polycrystalline panels and Growatt inverters.
Limerick Close Blocks A to E were Ecolution Finance’s first of many Solar Photovoltaic systems which are now owned by us. Ecolution bought the Solar PV from the freeholder, Annington Landlords. They didn’t want the burden of having to monitor and maintain the systems but wanted the benefits of reduced energy bills so we offered them our buyback finance option. This is where we offer the freeholder in this case Annington cash for their system, we register it in our name and take care of it from there. With Ecolution owning the systems the tenants and freeholder can continue to benefit from using the free electricity the system produces during the day at no charge but without the hassle of looking after it.
The Solar Photovoltaic systems are monitored and maintained by our aftercare company Ecolution Energy Services. We installed smart meters at all of the blocks in Limerick Close, giving us remote access to half-hourly generation data and diagnostic information. We are able to view the systems performance and are alerted if any faults arise, which would otherwise go unnoticed. This means our engineers can attend site and fix any issues as soon they occur, minimising any losses of free electricity for the freeholder and tenants.
This great installation is now producing 33,787.50 kWh of free electricity per year for the tenants and freeholder at Limerick Close. These blocks are reducing their carbon footprint with C0₂ savings of 17,873.59 kg per annum.
