Biomass also known as wood-fuelled heating systems produce electricity and heating for your property by burning wood pellets, chips or logs powering you central heating and hot water.

There are 2 types of biomass systems the stove which burns logs or pellets to heat a room and can be fitted with a back boiler to provide the property with hot water as well. There is also a boiler system which burns logs, pellets, and chips which are connected to a central heating and hot water system.

The way the system works is that in the boiler, water is heated to a high temperature under pressure to produce steam. This steam then powers the turbine which is connected to the generator whilst the steam then heats the water which is then distributed around the property.

Biomass boilers are a great solution for environmentally conscious homeowners because wood is a renewable, carbon-neutral source of energy. With the help of the Renewable Heat Incentive and other long-term saving solution, biomass boilers are a fantastic renewable tehnology

What Do I Need to Install a Biomass Boiler?

The simple answer to this question is that you need space. A garage usually does the trick and can accommodate the boiler, which consists of a full wood pellet system consists of boiler, accumulation tank, fuel storage system, chimney and expansion vessel, which need around 10 square metres of space.

If you don’t have a garage or a similarly sized space to store the boiler itself, there are other solutions you can consider. For example you can choose to build the plant internally but store the fuel externally or alternatively you can store the boiler in an outbuilding

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), provides homeowners with financial support between £2,000 and £3,500 a year for seven years, which gives in a total rebate from £14,000 to £24,500. Currently, the RHI pays 12.2p per kWh. The installer must be MCS Approved, to ensure your system is installed efficiently and effectively.

Ecolution have a strong track record in biomass boiler service, and maintenance. Biomass boilers that aren’t serviced regularly generally reduce their performance and efficiency over time. Regular servicing and care will extend the lifespan of your boiler and ensure optimum performance, meaning greater RHI returns.

We provide both planned maintenance and servicing for biomass systems. As part of these packages, one of our qualified and experienced engineers will attend your property to carry out a thorough annual service. We will also be able attend your property for any reactive / emergency repairs.

What’s included in your annual biomass service?

• Geared motor units, seals, and bearings checked and greased where necessary.

• Inspection of anti-burn back protection/safety equipment.

• Internals within the heat exchanger are thoroughly inspected and cleaned. All airway ports, primary and secondary are cleared of carbon build up.

• Boiler and bunker feed screws are examined and cleaned where necessary.

• Inspection of the automatic ignition system.

• Electrical inspection of boiler connections and control panel.

• General inspection of the boiler.

• General inspection of associated feeding equipment.

• A flue gas analysis to report on the efficiency of the boiler during working conditions.
