Ecolution Group are helping housing associations fight fuel poverty and decarbonise the housing stock

2019 was a critical year in a decisive decade in setting the direction on climate change actions. One of the results was that many Housing Associations declared a Climate Emergency leading to an increased emphasis on zero-carbon homes. Climate change is an urgent problem that demands swift, decisive action as well as fuel poverty.

Around one in four people in the UK are fighting fuel poverty and millions more are struggling to pay their fuel bills. Another year of inflation-busting energy prices combined with the winter that is around the corner we see a situation where many people will probably have to make a desperate choice between heating their homes or feeding their families.

As it currently stands, a household is official “fuel poor” if it spends more than 10% of its income to maintain an adequate level of warmth.
However, we believe that it is possible to have warm homes and reduced fuel bills which is why we work with Housing Associations to support them so their residents don’t have to make the choice and struggle through the winter months.

We are proud to say we have been working with some of the largest housing associations and local authorities nationwide on remedial schemes where we retrofit properties to become more sustainable through the use of renewable systems which in turn helps to combat fuel poverty.

Once these renewable systems are in place to ensure that they continue to work at optimum levels for the residents it is important they are regularly maintained to maximise savings and continue to help combat Fuel Poverty. This is why as part of our packages we include monitoring and maintenance.

“We are committed to helping Housing Associations combat fuel poverty for our customers, as no one should ever have to worry about whether they can afford heating and hot water. Thousands are dealing with stress and anxiety from unaffordable fuel bills which is avoidable if we just work together to provide a more economically and environmentally friendly energy alternative ” – James Quinn, Head of Ecolution Energy Services
